Abstract Hericium erinaceus (Yamabushitake in Japan) is a well-known edible and medicinal mushroom. We discovered antidementia compounds, hericenones C to H, from the fruiting bodies erinacine A I cultured mycelia of fungus. Based on data several clinical experiments were performed using “Fairy rings” phenomenon that turfgrass grows more prolific or inhibited than surrounding area as ring then occasionally mushrooms develop ring. found fairy-ring causing principles “fairy chemicals” biosynthetic routes compounds purine metabolic pathway plants mushrooms.
